Corpus-based teaching material and ASSURE model lesson plan

Hey there! Today I will post about creating a corpus-based teaching material and preparing a lesson plan based on the ASSURE model.

Well, in our last assignments, we were supposed to choose a couple of grammar or vocabulary items and create a corpus-based teaching material ( COCA or Corpusmate) based on the items we selected. We prefer to choose a vocabulary item since we thought it could be more suitable and flexible for corpus usage. We decided to focus on say and tell difference and use COCA. By the way, we worked as groups for this project. We prepared various activities and an instruction paper to use COCA. I will add the material link at the end of the post. Then we prepared our ASSURE lesson plan. The ASSURE model is a structured approach to lesson planning, emphasizing the integration of technology and media to enhance learning. The acronym stands for analyze learners, state standards and objectives, select methods, media, and materials, utilize media and materials, require learner participation, evaluate and revise.

I think I won't use this lesson plan in my future classrooms. Because it is really difficult for all students to open COCA and complete the steps without losing class time and motivation. In my opinion, even if everything goes well, it does not contribute much to students' language learning. I would teach my students what COCA is and how to use it because it can be effective for them, especially in terms of seeing word frequencies in their self-learning, but I won't specifically devote my class time to it.
