21st Century Learning Skills

Hello everyone :) ! Today I want to share a post about 21st-century learning skills and their importance in language learning.

As we all know, constant technological developments affect every aspect of our lives, including education. Through the integration of technology into education there have been fundamental changes. Since it is very easy to access information now, 21st-century learning skills such as creativity, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking are more important than knowing the right facts. Due to this, teaching and learning in the modern era should support students' development of 21st-century skills in addition to their acquisition of knowledge in a variety of learning contexts, including language learning contexts (Shadiev & Wang, 2022).

Since language learning is very adaptable to technological developments and its social nature acquiring 21st-century learning skills is inevitable for students. For example, critical thinking helps students monitor and evaluate their own learning more effectively and take responsibility for their own thinking (Shirkhani & Fahim, 2011). Students can become active members of a learning group and enhance their learning while supporting and motivating themselves with their collaborative skills. Also through creativity, students can discover more efficient and easier ways to learn a language and make the whole process more fun. Perhaps the most important skill in this field is communication because that is what learning a language is all about. The more students understand any content and the more they express themselves in the target language, the more progress they will make.

I hope this post helps you somehow. Thanks for reading. <3
